What's it all about?

When you join The Joking Cousins of Xanadu-du you become a citizen of the mythical land of Xanadu-du. The civilization is loosely modelled on the historic tribal civilization of Mali in West Africa. Through the use of personal story pages, you will lead an alternate life.

In Xanadu-du we have seven original tribes: Dan, Xan, Du, Du-Du, Ana, Unad and Nadu. However as time goes on and loyalties evolve, groups of citizens may wish to form their own tribes.

If you have been invited by one of our cousins, you will join the tribe of that cousin, otherwise you'll be allocated to the tribe with fewest members.

Petty crime is everywhere in Xanadu-du: when you join us you will be allocated a crime for which you have to provide an outlandish explanation. Members of other tribes may also accuse you of other offences as time goes on.

You will also be given a lowly job - sixth truffle-gatherer or some such. Through laziness, corruption and ineptitude you will rise through the ranks.

Age is venerated in Xanadu-du. When you first become a citizen your age will be 21 years. However, you can accumulate more years based on the number of words you publish on the site, and by introducing more cousins to Xanadu-du. You also get a weekly salary and a gift on your real and 'official' birthdays.
