MELVYN aka Mlvna'khkh Fa Du-Du: Abimbola's erstwhile driver. Later, a spy.

MBARASTI: Griot of the Xan tribe.

GRANDMA: an ancestral spirit in Chniwala's head.

DJELE DJELLY : a trainee Griot. Melvyn's cousin.

TETRAGALLINAS: Monitor Monitor Upstairs. An idiot.

MEGACAPRINE: in charge of Upstairs. Possibly a god.

WILLIAM de ROCQUEFORT: a stoat, Chinwala's animal companion.

MOGADANGELO of DAN: an ambitious painter.

EKUNDAYO: Head Man of the Dan enclave of Ushidagom.

CHIKU: Ekundayo's number one wife.

QUDE: Head of the Department of Boffinology, Upstairs.

TREVOR: a flying, talking rug.

OFFICER MATERIAL: a military man.

HARDIMAN: Tony Wibberley's ex-boss.

LIZ: Tony Wibberley's ex-wife.

JULIE: Tony Wibberley's ex-colleague.

ESIANKIKI: a clerk at Xanaport. One of three sisters.

TAWNEE WOBBLEE: a lap-dancer?

ADISA of DAN: in charge of the Corps d'Esprit.

DJELE BHELE: an insignificant griot.

S'TOATBOTHERER of DU-DU: a careless pedestrian.

NKOSI: Head Man of Xan.

DOC CROC: a crocodile psychiatrist.

Mr & Mrs CROC: just crocodiles, y'know?

IMBIBULA: a wine merchant.

AKELE: an Agent.
